PROJECTS WE HAVE DONE

1.0 Water & Wastewater

A) United Kingdom

NGM Consulting Engineers Ltd has been working on Water Projects in Zambia since 2013 but the combined experience of its Partners and Associates is over 20 years. The main area of expertise is in Design of Water Treatment Plants, Design of Water and Waste Water Networks, Boreholes, Drainage Design, Water and Waste Water Modeling and Design, Design and Installation of pipelines, and Non-revenue water management (Reduction).

Before it was incorporated in Zambia, NGM Consulting Engineers operated in England and Scotland as NGM Bro Ltd and worked on several projects for

Severn Trent,

Scottish Water,

Anglian and Southern Water, under Mouchel Parkman and MWH Global as sub Consultants. The work involved calibration of hydraulic models, demand model production, GIS build, water structure rehabilitation and pipe line designs.

B) Zambia

NGM Consulting Engineers Ltd has been involved in 3 major water projects in Zambia that involved Design and Construction Supervision of New Treatment Plants, Water Distribution Centers, Transmission mains and Water Distribution pipe networks.

Other works involved the production of water demand models for water systems and the rehabilitation of existing concrete water tanks and treatment plants, including filters and clarifiers.

1.1 Nkana East New Water Treatment Plant

The works above were part of the Nkana East New Treatment Plant Design and Construction Supervision works. A new 66,000 cubic meter Water Treatment Plant was constructed to reinforce the existing plant. It included a splitter chamber, mixing chamber, flocculation basin, sedimentation basin, Filters, a filter gallery, a clear water tank and a back wash tank. The estimated value of this contract was $5 million Dollars and was conducted under FIDIC.

Under this same contract NGM Consulting designed and supervised the construction of a Chlorine Building, Chemical Building and the rehabilitation of the existing plant. The works included the installation of new pumps in the existing high lift pump house, rehabilitation of existing clarifiers, rehabilitation of existing filters, installation of new back wash pumps, and installation of new valves and replacement of filter siphons.

We were responsible for checking the quality of the works and approval of all the materials, design reviews measurement of completed work and preparation of measurement forms that formed part of the payment certificates for approval by the main consultant. We were responsible for the safety, material tests approvals and final inspection of the structures before they were certified complete and handed over to the client

1.2 17th Avenue Project

The 17th Avenue elevated water tank is so called because it was constructed along Central Street on 17th Avenue. These works involved the construction of a 35m elevated concrete water tower to boost pressure in high elevation areas of the Kitwe City Center and parts of Nkana West. On the same site there was installation of 11 new pumps in the existing pumping station and the installation of submersible pumps in the existing reservoirs. The estimated cost of the project was $1.1 million US Dollars

1.3 Bulangililo Water Treatment Plant Rehabilitation

NGM Consulting Engineers was commissioned to supervise the rehabilitation works at the Bulangililo Water Treatment Plant under the Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Project. The works included the removal of existing raw water pumps at the intake and replacing them with new one. Repair of exiting filters and clarifiers. Replacement of existing pumps at the high lift pump house. General repairs to the existing buildings including replacing electrical components and valves.

The figure below shows the newly installed filter nozzles on a rehabilitated slab ready to receive the filter sand. The type of filters are degramont.

1.4 Kwacha Road Distribution Centre

This distribution center near Kitwe Central hospital had one of the existing reservoirs abandoned. NGM Consulting Engineers was commissioned to supervise the works and conduct design reviews of the rehabilitation of the existing 22,500cubic meters concrete tank. The outer radius of the reservoir is 54.8m and the height is 9.85m, top thickness is 254mm, bottom thickness is 356mm. The curvature radius of its dome ring is 57.45m and the height is 6.4m from the top water level to the top of the dome ring. The estimated cost of the rehabilitation works was $ 2 million US dollars.
